Whistle While You Work... But Don't Snack at Your DeskIs working in an office causing you to gain weight? Try some of these simple tips to manage the munchies monster and keep those pounds under control. • Taking your lunch to work is one of the easiest ways to save a ton of calories. • Don't fall into the habit of ordering take-out or going to the local fast food spot. A tuna sandwich and some fruit from home is a much healthier choice and less expensive, too. • Consider a thermos of soup or a container with last evening's chicken dinner. • A luscious green salad or slices of mouth watering melon provide a light and satisfying lunch. • Cottage cheese and peaches make a refreshing, and surprisingly filling lunch as well. • Use the money you've saved by packing your own lunch to treat yourself to a magazine, book, or a favorite low-calorie snack food at the end of the week. • Grab a friend or co-worker and head outside for a walk during your lunch break. • On cold or rainy days, take a stroll at the local mall, or even around the office complex. • Be sure to at least get out of your chair to stretch and walk away from your desk. This is especially important for home office workers who tend to not take many time-outs from computer work. • Head to the water cooler often, or carry-in bottled water and stop by a co-workers desk for a quick break. • It's important in your weight loss program to drink plenty of water. And a water break will give you a chance to catch up on the latest pop culture and local news. • Home based workers might find visiting a neighbor at lunch time will keep their diet in check. Chatting rather than eating will certainly help. • Keep your keyboard crumb free by not snacking at your desk. • Most snackable indulgence goodies such as chips and candies are full of fat and sugar. Opt for fruits and veggies instead. Nutrition specialists suggest we should all consume more of these beneficial foods each day. • Jazz up those tired carrot and celery sticks by dipping in a little fat free yogurt. You'll be adding some fun, flavor, and bone nourishing calcium to this low-calorie delight. Today's workers are actively seeking ways to stay healthy. Hopefully, you've found these and other ideas helpful as well. Article © 2007 Heather Quarnstrom. All rights reserved worldwide.
